During its reopening process, Disney has only resumed operation at some of its resort restaurants. At Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, fan favorite Ohana stays closed. Neighboring restaurant Kona Café has reopened though and is serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I had been here once for breakfast before, but wanted to go back and try it again!
Kona Café is located on the second floor of the lobby of the resort. It is bright and open, creating a casual and relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant puts a Polynesian flare on its meals in order to stick with resort theming.
When I saw the menu, I knew I had to try the Tonga Toast to see what it was like. Tonga Toast is French toast that has been rolled in cinnamon sugar and stuffed with banana! It actually comes out looking more like a tiny loaf of bread than traditional French toast. The cinnamon sugar makes it smell just like a doughnut! For sweet lovers, this meal is for you. Definitely try it with the strawberry compote on top. I’m not a huge French toast person so I’m not sure I would get this again, but I’m glad I tried it!
With a limited menu, there are some specials available each day. Our second dish that we ordered was actually a biscuits and gravy special that came with eggs and meat. I did not try the gravy but apparently it was very good!
If you are adventurous and want to try a more traditional dish, you should go for the Loco Moco. Unfortunately because of the limited menu right now, this is just available as a plant-based option. It comes with plant based eggs and sausage, rice, coconut milk, and pico de gallo. Hopefully the regular version of this dish comes back to the menu soon too!
Next time I go for breakfast, I would really like to try the macadamia nut pancakes. They are served with a pineapple sauce. I saw the plate going to other tables and it looked delicious!
To drink, of course we had to get the Liliko’i Juice. This juice is a favorite at many resort restaurants and is offered under different names to match the theming. It is a blend of orange, guava, and passion fruit juices and is so sweet and delicious! I always order it when I can! At Kona Café you can also order it as a mimosa!
For dinner, Kona offers options like sushi rolls and poke bowls. I have not been for dinner yet, but after two good breakfast experiences I am definitely planning on going to try it someday soon!
I would definitely recommend this breakfast if you are looking for an easy sit down before you start your park day! You can come explore the Polynesian, have a good meal, and then hop on the monorail to head to Magic Kingdom!
